Attorney & Co-Founder
Jack knows the business of healthcare. Jack’s preeminence in healthcare law is recognized by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, Leading Lawyers, Super Lawyers, and Martindale-Hubbell. He is Best Lawyers‘ 2014 Chicago “Lawyer of the Year” in health care law and is top-rated Band 1 in healthcare law in Illinois by Chambers USA.
Jack’s health industry savvy and insights led to his 2002 appointment to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary’s Federal Advisory Committee on Regulatory Reform, where he served on its Executive Committee and chaired its Coordination Subcommittee.
Jack’s craft as a health care lawyer is informed by “Big Law” experience. He began practicing commercial litigation and antitrust law at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, an international law firm, rising to capital partner. Drawn to the opportunities in the health sector, Jack left Kirkland & Ellis, formed his own law firm, and transitioned from litigator to business counselor for healthcare organizations.
Returning to “Big Law,” he successfully managed and grew healthcare law practices at two Chicago law firms. In 2009, he returned to building his own law firm by teaming with Kathy Roe to found Health Law Consultancy as a Chicago-based boutique law firm serving the business of healthcare.
Jack’s proficiencies include antitrust and healthcare fraud and abuse avoidance compliance; joint ventures, affiliations and other transactions; payer-provider arrangements; Medicare, Medicaid and other government health benefit programs; commercial health insurance products and markets; and health information privacy, security and electronic transaction.
